Roomba 980 vs Roomba i7+

Side by Side Comparison: What Makes Them Different?

Cost-Effectiveness

Price is a major consideration in our choice of a large ticket item such as a Roomba and although iRobot’s 900 Roomba series seem quite costly, I’ve tried my fair share of robot vacuum cleaners and theirs are the best. For the 980 model, you can expect to spend between $675 and $799. For the i7+ model, the price tag is a bit higher at around $1,099. Roomba 980 vs Roomba i7+ at price factor, Roomba i7+ wins.

Battery, Motor Power, and Noise

Roomba 980 vs Roomba i7+ at motor power factor, both the Roomba 900 series and Roomba i Series have relatively short battery runtimes. With a fully charged battery, initial runtimes should run between 60-120 minutes for both models. Both models feature the new Gen 3 motor which delivers ten times more air power than older models and compare equally when it comes to motor power and noise. Since both use the same motor, they make the same amount of noise. My biggest beef with the Roomba 980 is how loud it is.

Weight and Volume of the Vacuum

Roomba 980 vs Roomba i7+ at weight part, the Roomba 980 is bigger than the i7+ with package dimensions of 20.5 x 5.25 x 16.5 inches and heavier weighing in at 13.7 lbs. Whereas the Roomba i7+ package dimensions are 16.52 x 19.63 x 15.75 inches and it weighs a scant 13.7 lbs in comparison with the 980.  The main difference in the display of the robots is the color scheme. The Roomba 980 has a subtle dark charcoal finish. The Roomba i7+ has been finished in much darker charcoal with a choice of brown or grey.

Brushes

The exceptional efficiency of the Roomba brush technology hasn’t changed much since the Roomba 980. Both the 980 and i7+, have the same a dual multisurface brush system. The brush is made from rubber meaning they are gentle even on fragile hardwood floors. The anti-tangle system, on the other hand, ensures long hairs don’t jam the brush problems which was a problem with past models. The debris extractor is made of a rubber material which is long lasting and easy to maintain. Owners don’t have to touch and clean dirty bristles in order to keep the Roomba cleaning efficiently anymore. Instead, the debris extractor grabs hold of dirt and debris, breaking it down before allowing the powerful suction to take the collection of dirt into the vacuum’s reservoir.

Filter

Both the 980 and i7+ models boast the AeroVac filter system that employs a set of highly efficient HEPA filters. They can filter out 99.97% of allergens creating an ambient atmosphere. HEPA filters are essential for pet owners, as they filter out skin flakes, urine smells, and other related allergens. Both models compare equally in this category.

In comparing the Roomba i7+ with the Roomba 980 the Roomba i7+ takes the crown. It’s Imprint Smart Mapping feature is a definitive plus as it enables you to instruct the robot where to clean, and when. The inclusion of the Clean Base System with the Roomba i7+ presents the real difference between it and the Roomba 980 and determined the Roomba i7+ to be the model that provided the most practical solution for my cleaning needs.

However, on low pile carpet, neither Roomba performed exceptionally well with small dirt, like flour and kitty litter, for example, presenting problems here and there. Roomba i7+
