Even though the Roomba 690 is not exactly the best of Roomba robotics for this job, it sure does it better than many other robotic brands out there.
As a matter of fact, Roomba has improved tremendously on these products to develop what is now called the new generation Roomba vacs. Of all, I have selected, used and compared five of the best Roomba products with very strong suction powers specifically for pet hair: iRobot Roomba 980, iRobot Roomba 890, iRobot Roomba 690, iRobot Roomba i7+ and the iRobot Roomba E5. Top 5 Best Roomba for Pet Hair Products Review
1. Roomba 980 — Best Roomba Robotic for Pet Hair on Multiple Floor Surfaces
The Roomba 980 is one of the highly efficient first-generation Roomba robotics. It has a high efficiency of about 98% for pet hairs and does reasonably well for other kinds of cleaning. It also comes with a number of advanced cleaning features such as a camera, sound signals, sensors, etc that make the work very easy for you.
Efficient Dirt Detect Technology
One important feature that makes it super easy for the Roomba 980 to effectively run without supervision is its ability to detect dirt easily. It is built with an amazing detect tech that helps it to locate pet hairs around your apartment and pick them up. This way, no strand of hair is left hiding at any corner. Your Roomba 980 finds it and sucks it up!
Tangle-free Surface Brushes
Another feature that I find impressive about this robotic is the design of the surface brushes. The brushes are designed to avoid tangling up with pet hair. Unlike many other robotics out there, your Roomba 980 doesn’t require manual disentangling of stuck hair because it handles hairs, however tiny or strong, with ease. In other words, it never gets entangled!
Extra Suction Power for Thick Carpets
It is common for pet hair to hide within thick carpets especially. The most frustrating thing about this is that most robotics do not have enough suction power for picking the hair out of such carpets. This used to be the case with me, but the Roomba 980 provided a quick solution to that with its 10x extra suction power. Just upon first use, I was surprised at how efficiently it cleaned up the entire hair mess on my carpet. It made me realize that there was more hair than I thought of hiding there!
The Roomba 980 comes with an iAdapt 2.0 sensor navigation that gives it an edge over the earlier Roomba series. With such a strong navigation system aided by its camera and cliff detector, I could use the robovac for intet-room cleaning with very little navigation. It makes it relatively easy to got your vac to move from room to room without getting stuck anywhere around my home.
- Very easy to maintain and use with its mobile app.
- Has different sound signals for different operations that notify you of the progress of your robot.
- Affords you a very deep cleaning especially on carpets and thick rugs.
- Produces relatively little noise.
- Very effective for pet messes.
- Its recharge and resume technology makes it suitable for extensive cleaning.
- Not for those on low budgets.
- It loses track of its location once you pick it up while cleaning.
- With the buttons placed at the top of the vac, a daring pet could jump on it and obstruct its operations.

2. iRobot Roomba 890 — Best Roomba Robotic Vacuum for Cat hair
I found that the Roomba 890 did more of cat fur cleaning than the others. Thanks to its 5x extra ait power. Typically, cat furs are slick, lightweight and can easily fly around the house unseen. The Roomba 890 does a pretty excellent job of picking up the cat hair around my home. More so, if what you’re looking for is an inexpensive and strong robotic that does the job almost as effectively as the Roomba 980, the Roomba 890 is very much available to you. Although it’s suction power isn’t as strong as the new generation Roomba products, it boasts of a 3-stage cleaning system that provides you with effective cleaning of all cat furs. It is highly recommendable for homes with cats and multiple surfaces. It does spot cleaning for full concentration on corners and areas where your pets stay often.
Light Detector
The Roomba 890 comes with special light indicators that blink when it detects dirt, whether solid debris or pet hair. This helps you to note and map regions of your house that often accumulate dirt, and apply spot cleaning.
Headlights for Night Cleaning
You have a reason to vacuum at night? Or perhaps you’ve just arrived Kate from a trip and you need to vacuum before going to bed? The Roomba 890 has got your back. With its bright headlights located at the front, you can vacuum anywhere anytime! Plus, the headlights are useful for vacuuming dark corners of your house.
A Slim Profile
Talk of a robotic that is so slim that it can go literally anywhere! The iRobot Roomba 890 is only 3.6″ and can go under your furniture such as shelves, drawers, and several others. Wherever your pet hair might have flown to, this efficient Roomba will help you find it.
Cliff Detect Sensor
The Roomba 890, just like the other Roomba products in the series, had the ability to detect cliffs and edges, making it impossible for it to fall over. With this feature, you can conveniently vacuum your stairs and areas of your home that involve edges without worry. The only demand with this feature is that you will have to manually pick up the vac and place it on the edges you want to vacuum.
- Saves a lot of costs and easy to procure.
- Suitable for cleaning pet mess on various kind of surfaces.
- Its low profile makes it possible to reach the tightest corners of your apartment.
- Its iRobot mobile app makes it possible to operate you are robotic or schedule your cleaning irrespective of where you are.
- Its dual brushes make cleaning detailed and efficient.
- Produces too much noise during operation
- Dirt bin is not large enough for extensive cleaning.

3. iRobot Roomba 690 — Best Roomba for Pet Hair in Corners
Here is a four-star rated Roomba robotic efficient for cleaning pet hair. It is a highly sophisticated robot that works with Alexa Voice control and comes with dirt detect sensors. Among the Roomba 600 and 700 series, here is my favorite owing to its ability to vacuum pet mess. You would wonder how it makes the list of my top Roomba products for pet hair. Here is why: With this robotic, you can rest assured to get the best of cleaning for all purposes and on all surfaces despite the fact that it is ridiculously cheap. The efficiency rate is about 95%.
Strong Build
Among its 600 series contemporaries, the Roomba 690 is known for its strong physical build. It comes with a bumper that doubles as a navigation sensor. While the sensor already helps it to avoid obstacles, the front bumper keeps it safe if it eventually comes against obstacles. That way, your robotic is safe and secure.
Easy Control and Use
Even before the new generation Roomba vacs that are considered the smartest, this robotic has proven to be convenient for use anywhere you are. Apart from its WiFi connectivity, it supports Alexa Voice Control and Google Home Assistant. But if you don’t have any of these in your home, the Roomba 690 can be used with the Mobile app and operated virtually anywhere!
Adequate Runtime
For a robotic of such a low cost and design, the Roomba 690 does an amazing job as far as runtime is concerned. It lasts as much as 70 minutes after a full charge. For one who does frequent vacuuming, that is definitely enough time to get an entire house cleaned.
Improved iRobot Home App
Another impressive feature that makes me love this robotic is the extra benefits the home app gives to you. With the app, you can map your cleaning.
- Very cheap yet efficient.
- Has a smart navigation system that makes it avoid obstacles as much as possible.
- Its smart app makes it easy to control.
- Highly efficient for hidden pet hair.
- Glides easily over different surfaces.
- Comes with sufficient cleaning components.
- A little heavy at 7.8 pounds. Dome persons consider this a problem because you might have to pick up the vac once in a while while cleaning.
- It lacks zoned cleaning. This means if you want the vac to clean a specific place again and again, you will manually have to pick it up and place it where you want.
- A little noisy.

4. iRobot Roomba i7+ — Best Roomba Robotic for Dog Hair on Thick Carpets
For those who keep dogs a lot around the home, the i7+ is your best friend. Mine are both the Maltese breed and they shed a lot of hair and of course dander. Luckily for me, I’m not allergic to dog hair, but even if you are or you have someone around your apartment who is, the Roomba i7+ comes with the HEPA filter that does a good job at keeping allergies in check. In addition, I specifically fell in love with this vac because it is the true definition of ‘convenience’. We all love stress-free vacuuming. Isn’t that why we prefer robotics? But the reality is that most other robotics still require your manual supervision so as to pick it up when it gets stuck or to empty its dirt bin when it is full. The Roomba i7+ completely eliminates all such stress. With this automatic robotic, you can completely stay away from home and do your vacuuming from anywhere in the universe! Plus, it gives dog hair (irrespective of the breed and fur type) no chance whatsoever in your home. I’ll recommend it for those who keep dogs as pets.
Self Dirt Disposal
This robot has a special wonderful feature attached to it. It comes with a design that empties its dirt bin all by itself. When the bin is full, rather than signaling for you to empty it just like every other robotic, the Roomba i7+ simply returns to the dock and automatically empties itself before resuming its cleaning. Inside the dock is a large dirtbag that can contain 30 x the content of your full dirt bin. This means you have absolutely nothing to worry about even when you’re away from home. This amazing robotic knows what to do and when exactly to do it.
Mapping Plus Zoned Cleaning
Although this isn’t the first robotic to come with a mapping option using the app, I noticed that the Roomba i7+ had a specific pattern of mapping your apartment and storing the data for quick reference when you have to do a zoned cleaning. While other vacs tend to override a saved map and start mapping again if you happen to pick up the robotic, this excellent cleaner keeps your stored map intact.
Automatic Surface Adjustment
The i7+ is specially built to adjust to the floor surfaces around your home. After about two weeks of use, I noticed that it adjusts its suction to suit the specific floor at each point in time. This helps it not to be too soft on hardwood and thick rugs, and on the other hand not to be too hard on light carpets. This vac knows what suction level is best for each part of your home!
While the earlier series come with iAdapt 2.0, the i7+ has an improved 3.0 navigation system that helps it to maneuver around your house very easily, avoiding cables and obstacles.
- One of the easiest robotic to use.
- Does excellently on pet hair cleaning as well as multiple floor surfaces.
- Allows zoned cleaning.
- Compatible with Alexa Voice Control
- Capable of running for about 75 minutes before a recharge.
- Not for people with moderate budget.
- Finds it difficult to clean large debris.
- Seems to develop difficulties reaching crevices.

5. iRobot Roomba E5 — Best Roomba for Cat hair on tiles and hardwood
This robotic also deserve to make my list of best Roomba vacs for pet cleaning. Although it lacks most of the sophisticated features of a modern generation robotic such as the ability to recharge and resume on its own, it sure vacuums let hairs effectively and, yes, it is pocket-friendly too! Plus, I love it for its unique battery runtime of 90 minutes after a single charge.
5 x Extra Suction Power
Although it doesn’t match the suction levels of the newest Roomba products, it sure does an excellent vacuuming and leaves nothing unpicked.
Auto-Adjust Cleaning Head
The Roomba E5 comes with a head design that is capable of adjusting to suit the nature of the surface it is applied on. This impressive feature makes it easy for the vac to successfully clean different surfaces ranging from tile to hardwood to upholstery, among others.
An Excellent Battery Runtime
What the E5 lacks in sophistication, it definitely makes up with its strong battery that runs for as long as an hour and a half after a full charge. Very few robotics vans beat this. You can rest assured that your Roomba E5 will cover your apartment in just one charge.
- Gives you enough cleaning time for your money.
- Quite inexpensive and easy to procure.
- Compatible with Alexa and comes with a home app for convenience.
- Very effective for pet mess.
- Lacks a full bin indicator.
- Doesn’t have a recharge and resume feature.
- Also lacks a home mapping feature.

No doubt, Roomba is such a great brand that builds high tech robots excellent for pet keepers who are fed up with manual vacuuming. My favorite choice and recommendation is the i7+ if you will forgive its heavy cost. But if you’re on a low budget, the Roomba 690 will serve you just fine.
